Education: Court Suspends Magoha’s orders over UoN Vice Chancellor

The Labour Court has suspended a decision by ducation Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to revoke the appointment of Prof Stephen Kiama as the University of Nairobi’s (UoN) Vice-Chancellor.

Sitting at the Employment and Labour Relations Court on Monday, January 20th, Lady Justice Maureen Onyango, also suspended Prof Isaac Mbeche’s appointment as the acting Vice-Chancellor.

The orders will remain in force until a case filed by Prof Kiama, through lawyer Fred Ngatia, is heard on February 5.

Prof Kiama has sued Magoha and the Attorney-General and listed the UoN, Prof Mbeche and the Public Service Commission (PSC) as interested parties.

In filed case documents, Prof Kiama argues he was duly appointed in a letter dated January 3 to serve for a five-year term.
