Jubilant Chelsea Manager Frank Lampard
The English Premier League (EPL) fourth-place finishers Chelsea kicked off their 2020-21 Premiership campaign with a 3-1 win at Brighton & Hove on Monday, September 14th, 2020.
Jorginho converted an early penalty for Frank Lampard’s men to get off to an ideal start after 23 minutes at Falmer Stadium.
The penalty was awarded after new signing German international Timo Werner was taken down by Brighton goalkeeper Australia’s national team custodian Mat Ryan, and Jorginho stepped up to give the Blues the lead.
Chelsea kept their advantage into half-time before Belgian international Leandro Trossard equalized nine minutes after the break to settle the scores.
However, Reece James struck back moments later with a rocket from outside the box the France’s Kurt Zouma added a third 10 minutes later with a side-footed volley from a James corner that took a deflection before beating a helpless Ryan in goal.
Chelsea next face champions Liverpool in a Premier League encounter on Sunday, September 20th, 2020. While Brighton will host Portsmouth in an EFL Carabao Cup second-round match on Thursday, September 17th  before visiting Newcastle in the league on Sunday.
