GoldenBoot winner Stephen Waruru was on target as newly promoted Bidco United pipped the 2018 Footbal Kenya Federation (FKF) champions Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in a pre-season build-up match at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020.
Waruru signed from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) netted the all important goal from the spot in the 75th minute from awarded after second half substitute Nelson Chieta was brought down in the box.
The friendly match was being used by Kenya’s new top flight league broadcast sponsors StarTimes as a production rest run in its preparations for the 2020/21 BetKing Premier League set to kick-off in Saturday, November 28th.
The match demonstrated the league organisers readiness and adherence to the set COVID-19 protocols as laid out by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sports.
In line with the stated protocols, players and members of the technical bench of both teams together with match officials underwent manadatory COVID-19 testing organized by Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
The entire stadium was fumigated before the match which was played without fans.
All players, StarTimes production team and officials passed through a mandatory temperature check at the entrance where sanitisers were provided for use.
All those in the stadium wore facemasks and pratcised socoal distancing with designated hand washing points set up around the stadium.
In a post match interview, FKF president Nick Mwendwa said they were prepared and set to host the league’s new season.
“As a federation we have put in place safety health measures in accordance with COVID-19 prorocols set by the government,” he said.
