Tim Wanyonyi, Member of Parliament for Westlands, has donated relief items to more than 142 victims of the fire outbreak at Dam Village last week.
The inferno occurred at Dam Village, a slum, at around 5pm on Thursday, September 10, destroying structures hosting 142 households.
In particular, the legislator donated food items, sanitary products and blankets to each household.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon Wanyonyi said it is high time for the government to implement slum upgrading projects.
“Citizens ought to live in decent households. For a long time, we have been speaking of slum upgrading,” said Mr Tim Wanyonyi.
In addition, the member of national assembly said that the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will help in the reconstruction process.
Correspondingly, Mr Wanyonyi said that he had spoken to NMS to provide clean water to the village.
Well Wishers Support
Furthermore, the legislator said that he mobilized resources to provide support to the victims of the disaster. He added that NG-CDF have restricted the use of the emergency fund for fire disasters in the slums.
” In effect, I have brought you this little stuff to provide warmth to your little ones as we plan to restore your shelter. New regulations dictate that we can not use CDF funds for such a disaster. As a result, we have to mobilize resources from various donors to assist during such a crisis,” she said.
By and large the victims of the inferno expressed their appreciation to the MP. They appealed to other philanthropists to go to their aid.
