Ninety six political parties have so far been fully registered and issued with certificates as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has confirmed.

Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou made the announcement during the issuance of registration certificates to four newly registered political parties.

Lorionokou urged political parties to uphold integrity, strengthen internal democracy and serve Kenyans through accountable and democratic leadership.

He noted that some political parties have in the past collapsed or become unstable due to leadership wrangles, a situation he said weakens the growth of democracy in the country.

His remarks were echoed by Deputy Registrar of Political Parties Agatha Wahome, who called on political parties to observe the code of conduct and uphold values that promote transparency, accountability and responsible political engagement.

The newly certified parties include Kenya United Generation Party (KUGP), Msingi wa Utaifa Party (MUP), National Transformation Party (NTP), and People’s Forum for Rebuilding Democracy (PFRD).

The deadline for the registration of political parties ahead of the 2027 elections will be formally announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
