Babu Owino Leads Tight Nairobi Governor Race as Aladwa Emerges Strong Contender – Intouch Polls Kenya
Nairobi – Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has emerged as the early frontrunner in the race for Nairobi Governor, according to the latest opinion poll conducted by Intouch Polls Kenya.
The survey places Babu Owino at 24%, giving him a narrow lead over incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja, who follows with 20%.
Makadara MP George Aladwa is close behind with 19%, underscoring what analysts describe as a significant rise in his popularity ahead of the next General Election.
The poll also shows Embakasi North MP James Gakuya at 14%, SportPesa CEO and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri at 10%, while businesswoman Agnes Kagure garners 5% support.
George Aladwa's performance in the survey highlights his steady growth in popularity over recent years. The veteran politician has consistently improved his standing in successive opinion polls, making him one of the fastest-rising contenders in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Aladwa, the last Mayor of the former Nairobi City Council, has built a long political career in the capital. He first served as Makongeni Councillor for two terms before being elected Mayor of Nairobi. He currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Makadara, a position he has held since 2017.
Political observers say Aladwa's experience in both local government and Parliament, coupled with his grassroots mobilization, has strengthened his appeal among Nairobi voters.
With the race still in its early stages, the latest findings suggest that Nairobi is headed for a highly competitive gubernatorial contest, with no candidate enjoying a commanding lead. The narrow margins between the leading contenders indicate that the political landscape could shift significantly as campaigns gather momentum.
