Captain Ronald Karauri: Nairobi Needs a Proven Businessman, Not a Career Politician

Kasarani MP Captain Ronald Karauri has intensified his push for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, arguing that the capital needs a CEO-style leader with a proven record of building and managing successful businesses.

Speaking during a grassroots meeting in Embakasi Central, Karauri said Nairobi’s unique character as Kenya’s commercial and economic hub demands a different style of leadership—one focused on efficiency, accountability, innovation and results.

“Nairobi needs a CEO-style leader with a proven record of building or running successful businesses, not politicians who only offer promises without any real track record outside politics. Nairobi deserves better leadership,” Karauri said.

The Kasarani MP, who is expected to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial race in the next General Election, is increasingly positioning himself as a candidate who can bring private-sector management principles to City Hall.

Karauri’s argument is that Nairobi is fundamentally a city driven by businesses, entrepreneurs, investors and millions of workers, and therefore requires a governor who understands how to create an environment where businesses can thrive.

His message comes at a time when the Nairobi governor's race is already attracting significant political interest, with several potential contenders expected to battle for control of the country's most influential county.

For Karauri, however, the contest should go beyond political alliances and campaign rhetoric.

He wants voters to assess candidates based on their track record, management experience and ability to deliver measurable results.

The former businessman-turned-politician has sought to build his political profile around a combination of business experience and grassroots politics, first winning the Kasarani parliamentary seat and subsequently expanding his ambitions to the county level.

His pitch to Nairobi residents is increasingly straightforward: the capital needs a manager who can run Nairobi like a serious enterprise while putting public service at the centre of governance.

As the 2027 political contest gathers momentum, Karauri's CEO-style leadership message could become one of the defining narratives of his gubernatorial campaign.
