Community Beekeeping and Rural STEM Education Projects Win 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge
NAIROBI, Kenya, July 8, 2026 – A sustainable beekeeping initiative in Nandi County that will create new income opportunities for rural households and a science and digital learning project set to transform education at a primary school in Makueni County have emerged as the winners of the 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge, each receiving KSh1 million to bring their community-driven solutions to life.
The two winning initiatives are expected to deliver tangible, long-term impact by expanding economic opportunities, and improving access to quality education.
The Sisia Village Sustainable Beekeeping and Economic Empowerment Initiative from Nandi County, was recognized for its innovative approach to creating climate-resilient livelihoods by combining beekeeping training, production and market access into a sustainable agribusiness model. It will train 40 youth and women in modern beekeeping, helping 30 households (about 120 people) increase their incomes through sustainable honey production at an annual target of 1,500 kilograms. Beyond generating income for youth and women, the project will also contribute to environmental conservation through improved pollination and biodiversity.
The second winning project, Laboratory Equipment and Computers for Syiluni Primary/Junior Secondary School in Makueni County, was selected for its potential to bridge educational inequities by providing students and teachers with access to practical science education and digital technologies in an underserved rural community. The initiative will equip the school with a fully furnished science laboratory and 10 computers to enhance digital literacy for its learners.
The projects were announced as the winners of the seventh edition of the LG Ambassador Challenge, an initiative by LG Electronics East Africa in partnership with the Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) that supports locally developed solutions addressing Kenya's most pressing social and economic challenges.
"The LG Ambassador Challenge continues to demonstrate that some of the most transformative solutions are those designed by communities for their own communities," said Donghun Lee, President of LG Electronics East Africa.
"This year's winners reflect the power of innovation to create lasting economic opportunities and improve educational outcomes. This aligns with our commitment to making Life Good for all."
The 2026 winners build on the success of last year's beneficiaries, Decipe Children's Home and Rebirth of a Queen, whose projects focused on improving living conditions for vulnerable children and creating economic opportunities for survivors of gender-based violence through vocational training. This year's projects further expand the programme's impact by advancing sustainable livelihoods through agribusiness and improving educational outcomes through greater access to science and technology.
With the latest announcement, LG has awarded over KSh15 milllion to various initiatives around the country through the LG Ambassador Challenge.
