Democracy for the Citizens Party opens 2027 Elections Aspirant Registration
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has officially opened registration for aspirants seeking to contest on its ticket and unveiling the fees required for various elective positions as it steps up its preparations for the 2027 General Election.
In a notice issued on Friday, July 24, 2026, the party invited individuals interested in vying for elective offices to begin the registration process by making payments through the party's designated pay bill before submitting their personal and electoral details.
According to guidelines released, individuals seeking to vie for the position of Member of County Assembly (MCA) will pay a registration fee of Sh5,000.
Youth and persons with disabilities (PWDs) aspiring for the same seat will pay a discounted fee of Sh2,500.
Those seeking to contest for Member of Parliament, Woman Representative and Senator positions will each pay Sh10,000, while youth and PWD aspirants in the three categories will be charged Sh5,000.
"Gubernatorial aspirants will pay the highest registration fee at Sh50,000, with youth and PWD candidates seeking the same position required to pay Sh25,000," the guidelines state.
The party said the registration exercise is now open, with all aspiring candidates required to complete the process before seeking the party's nomination ahead of the 2027 General Election.
After completing the transaction, applicants must submit proof of payment together with their full names and national identity card numbers.
Other requirements listed in the notice include phone numbers, county, constituency and ward details, as well as the elective position they intend to contest.
The registration exercise marks another milestone in DCP's efforts to prepare for the next General Election, nearly a year after the party was launched.
The latest move also aligns with DCP's broader strategy of expanding its political footprint beyond its traditional support base in the Mt Kenya region.
Earlier this month, the party unveiled an ambitious plan to field candidates in all 47 counties in the 2027 General Election, signalling its intention to transform itself into a nationwide political outfit.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nyahururu on July 17, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua said the party had already established the structures necessary to sponsor candidates for all major elective positions across the country.
He said the party's long-term strategy is to build a strong national movement capable of competing in every county and securing significant representation at both the national and county levels.
"We are a national party, and we intend to field candidates in all 47 counties for gubernatorial, senatorial, National Assembly and county assembly seats," Gachagua stated.
According to him, DCP is targeting at least 20 governors, 20 senators, 145 Members of the National Assembly and a minimum of 720 Members of County Assembly in 2027.
