Director of Public Prosecutions Orders Police to Investigate South C Building Collapse

The dpp asked the police boss to submit the report to his office within seven days
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has directed the Inspector General of Police (IG) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapsing of a building in Nairobi’s South C estate. "The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has taken note of reports appearing in both mainstream and social media, of the tragic collapse of a 16 storey building in South C, Nairobi which occurred on January 2nd, 2026 with the greatest of concerns, "said the DPP in a statement. The DPP Renson Igonga asked the police boss to submit the report to his office within seven days for action towards holding every person who enabled the unsafe to account. The prosecutor further directed the IG to record statements from relevant persons including the developer, contractor and the person responsible for the relevant building and construction approvals, inspections and enforcement, and forward the resultant files for perusal to the ODPP within seven days. The DPP said his office remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in accordance with the rule of law, public interest and administration of justice. "The DPP empathises ith the family members of those who were trapped and are still trapped under the debris of the collapsed building,” he quipped.
