Dj Brownskin Cleared over Wife's Suicide Death

A Disc Jockey DJ charged with failing to prevent his wife from committing suicide four years ago in a city estate has been cleared of any wrongdoing in her death. Acquitting Michael Macharia Njiiri, aka DJ Brownskin, a Milimani Law Courts senior principal magistrate, said he had no premeditated intention. The magistrate ruled that the prosecution had not presented any evidence to prove that DJ Brownskin had played a role in aiding his wife, Sharon Njeri Mwangi, to take her own life. “From the totality of the evidence presented by the five prosecution witnesses, I find that the prosecution has failed to provide any evidence that would warrant this court to put the accused on trial,” ruled Senior Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo. She said that the court had no option but to acquit the accused. The magistrate added that the defence had successfully demonstrated that the accused had played no part in his wife’s death. “Having analysed all the evidence, I find that you played no part in the death of Sharon Njeri Mwangi,” the magistrate ruled. She dismissed the prosecution’s submission that there was insufficient evidence to enable the accused to present a defence. Prosecutors had told the court that the prosecution had presented evidence capable of placing the accused on his defence. However, the court overruled the prosecution’s case and proceeded to free the DJ. Njiiri had been charged with failing to prevent his wife from taking poison at their Kariobangi South Estate residence on the night of July 29, 2022. The second charge was that of negligence for failing to use all his powers to prevent Sharon from taking poison. A third indictment against the DJ was for destroying evidence. The prosecution accused the DJ of destroying a SIM card from his mobile phone, knowing that it could be used as evidence in a legal case. The court heard that the defendant saw his wife’s mouth foaming and raised the alarm by calling a neighbour, with whom he took his wife to the hospital, where she died. The magistrate directed that the bond paid by DJ Brownskin should be returned to him.
