Spotify's Global Impact List for H1 2026 highlights collaboration as one of the defining characteristics of East Africa's growing global success.

Leading the rankings is Finale, a collaboration between Tanzania's Alikiba and Kenya's Bien, bringing together two of East Africa's biggest musical voices. At number 2 is AYAYAAH, where Kenya's Bien joins Uganda's Joshua Baraka and Rwanda's ELEMENT EleéeH, demonstrating how artists from neighbouring countries are creating music with regional and international appeal.

The trend continues with "Lete Sound" at Number 3, uniting Tanzanian artist Ben Pol, Don Diablo and Kenya's Juliani, while "Pom Pom" sees Rwanda's Bruce Melodie, Nigeria’s Brown Joel collaborate with Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz. Completing the Top 5 is "Nasinzia II," by Nameless and Marioo, further reflecting how collaboration has become central to the region's evolving music story.

The latest rankings reveal a growing trend of artists collaborating across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda, creating music that resonates well beyond their home markets. Rather than operating within individual national scenes, artists are blending different sounds, cultures and audiences, helping shape a more connected regional music movement.

Together, these tracks show how partnerships are becoming one of East Africa's strongest drivers of discovery, audience growth and international recognition.

One Region, Many Sounds

The Global Impact List also reflects the diversity of East Africa's musical identity.

From Kenya's Afropop and urban music to Tanzania's Bongo Flava, Uganda's contemporary R&B and Rwanda's fast-rising urban scene, artists across the region continue to bring distinct influences to every collaboration. Rather than replacing local identities, these partnerships celebrate them, creating music that feels authentic while appealing to increasingly diverse audiences.

The result is a regional sound that is rooted in local cultures but resonates far beyond East Africa.

Streaming Is expanding audiences across the region.

Streaming has played a key role in accelerating this shift. By making music instantly accessible across borders, Spotify has made it easier than ever for listeners to discover artists from neighbouring countries. A song released in Nairobi can quickly find audiences in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali and beyond, helping East African artists build loyal fan communities across the region while reaching listeners around the world.

For artists, collaboration is about more than creating great music, it's also opening the door to new audiences.
