Kenya Railways has announced free commuter train tickets to members of the public as part of this year’s Customer Service Week celebrations.

The railway corporation said it had partnered with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to provide the complimentary tickets as part of efforts to appreciate its customers.

In a post on X on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Kenya Railways said the initiative was part of this year’s Customer Service Week, which is being marked under the theme of going the extra mile for customers.

“This Customer Service Week, we’re taking The Extra Mile to show our appreciation to you!” Kenya Railways said.

The corporation added, “Kenya Railways has partnered with the @KRACorporate to offer FREE commuter train tickets to members of the public as part of this year’s Customer Service Week celebrations.”

The announcement means members of the public will be able to access commuter train services without paying the usual ticket fare under the customer appreciation initiative.

Kenya Railways, however, did not specify in its announcement the exact dates, routes, number of tickets or conditions that will apply to passengers seeking the free tickets.

Customers may therefore need to follow further communication from the corporation for details on how and when to access the complimentary rides.

The free-ticket initiative comes as Kenya Railways advances plans to modernise Nairobi’s commuter rail network.

The wider Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project (KUMIP), backed by World Bank financing, is aimed at improving mobility in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area and upgrading commuter rail infrastructure.
