Gachagua’s DCP Names Senator John Methu as New Secretary General
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced changes and new appointments within the party leadership, saying DCP is seeking to expand its national footprint.
He said the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) appointed Nyandarua senator John Methu as Secretary General designate set to take over from Hezron Obaga,
The vocal senator was also tasked with leading the party’s campaign for the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, where they will face off with President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the former ruling party Jubilee led by retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.
He further announced that the DCP Emurua Dikirr by-elections Chief Agent Leonard Cheruiyot has joined the NEC as Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock.
Gachagua said the NEC also appointed Abdi Noor Mohammed as chairperson for Northern representation, while Wilson Kanyagu Ndungu of Daystar University will represent the youth caucus.
Gachagua claimed the party has received growing interest from North Rift and South Rift aspirants, and said thousands have registered to seek elective seats on the DCP ticket.
He said the party had received 34 expressions of interest for governor positions, 764 for Member of National Assembly seats and 11,564 aspirants for MCA positions.
Gachagua also claimed the party has registered 4,576,345 members.
He raised concerns about the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, alleging the system was refusing to remove members from UDA.
Meanwhile, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed a KSh 2 billion budget for the 2027 elections, stating that competition for the party ticket will be fierce.
To raise these funds, Gachagua expects to collect KSh 1 billion from aspiring candidates' nomination fees, while he plans to secure the remaining KSh 1 billion from international partners during upcoming fundraising trips to the United Kingdom and the United States. He also dismissed rumors of issuing direct tickets to political allies, emphasizing that all members must compete transparently and help fund the party's democratic processes.
