Harambee Starlets Captain Qualifies for UEFA Champions League
Kenya‘s national women‘s football team Harambee Starlets captain Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Adam is set to make history as only the second female footballer in the country to play in the UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL).
This comes after the midfielder guided her Danish club HB Koge to secure qualification into the prestigious tournament on Wednesday, 2 September.
Koge battled to a hard fought 1-1 draw with Polish side PSV Women in a UWCL qualification match, to guarantee them a 2-1 aggregate win, and progress into the main tournament.
Adam is now set to join Marjolen Nekesa as the only Kenya women footballers to play in Europe's elite tournament.
Nekesa is currently the only Kenyan to play in the tourney, a feat she achieved in 2022 after signing for Czech side Slavia Prague, where she also won the Czech league 2022/23 Golden Boot after banging 14 goals.
For Adam, after a goalless first half, HB Koge took the lead in the 46th minute through Swedish forward Cassandra Korhonen, who connected well to a Mille Gejl pass to break the deadlock.
Liz Rijsbergen would then restore parity in the 63rd minute after being set up by Lore Jacobs to ensure a nervy and competitive ending in the match, but Koge stood tall in defense to ensure they gain qualification in front of their jubilant home fans.
Adam, who started in midfield alongside Gejl played the entire match, pointing out her importance in the team.
The match came a week after the two sides met in the first leg in Poland, which ended 1-0 in favour of Kobe courtesy of a Kyra Carusa strike at the stroke of halftime, a match where Adam equally featured entirely at the base of midfield.
The Harambee Starlets midfielder added a historic piece of European silverware to her cabinet mid this year, on Saturday May 16, anchoring HB Køge Women to a 4-1 victory over arch-rivals FC Nordsjælland to lift the 2026 Danish Women’s Cup-KvindePokalen.
The triumph marked a monumental milestone for the club, securing HB Køge’s first-ever domestic cup title in their history.
The cup final victory continues a stellar stretch of form for Jereko. She recently returned to Denmark following a standout international deployment at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, where she similarly operated as a deep-lying playmaker for the Harambee Starlets during the FIFA Series tournament against India and Australia.
Dogo initially arrived in Denmark on July 18, 2025, securing a high-profile loan agreement from NWSL powerhouse Kansas City Current just ahead of the 2025–26 Kvindeligaen campaign.
On November 13, 2025, the Danish club officially made her transfer permanent by signing the star player to a lucrative two-year contract that securely ties her to the club through the end of the 2027 season.
In the domestic league, Koge are on top of the table with a 100% record of 15 points after five matches, and have soaked just one goal.
