By Kenneth Wepukhulu KenGen will sponsor three drivers for the 2026 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally to be hosted in Naivasha from March 12-15. The company has provided a total sponsorship package of over Kes 5.1 million, including individual support for drivers and a Kes 3 million donation to the event. The power generating company will sponsor Rwandese lady rally driver Queen Kalimpinya and the Kenyan duo of Azeli Ishmael and Andrew Muiruri. "Today, we have also formalized our support for rally drivers Azeli Ishmael and Andrew Muiruri. Supporting local drivers is not symbolic, it is strategic. We are investing in Kenyan talent and reinforcing our country’s competitive presence on the world stage," said KenGen Managing Director and CEO Engineer Peter Njenga during the unveiling of the sponsorship. He added:" Additionally, KenGen is supporting Queen Kalimpinya from Rwanda. This partnership aligns with the Company’s business diversification agenda, particularly in advancing geothermal development and strengthening strategic presence across the African continent." Njenga said as Africa's leading renewable energy company, they see the Safari Rally as a powerful stage to demonstrate that sustainable power can drive not only industries, but sport, enterprise and national pride. "Our partnership with the WRC Safari Rally 2026 reaffirms our long-term commitment to powering world-class events sustainably. KenGen is not just at the heart of this global spectacle, we are helping to define it," he said. KenGen has also partnered Radio Africa Group, Enashipai Resort & Spa and Adequate Safaris as their media, hospitality and transport partners respectively. "To us at KenGen, the WRC Safari Rally is more than a race, it is a playground where we showcase Kenya's innovation, resilience and extraordinary natural beauty. Today, we have deepened our commitment to this iconic event by partnering across the entire value chain: from drivers and world-class hospitality to media and immersive tourism," said Njenga. The MD said through Enashipai Resort & Spa, they are elevating hospitality experiences in Naivasha while showcasing the synergy between geothermal energy and tourism. "Through Radio Africa Group, we are scaling nationwide and regional visibility, ensuring that KenGen’s sustainability narrative reaches millions of households throughout the rally season," he said. The KenGen boss added: "Through Adequate Safaris, we are transforming rally attendance into immersive tourism experiences, connecting motorsport fans to Kenya’s geothermal heritage, including our iconic Geothermal Spa in Olkaria."
