Kenyan boxer John Juma is the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Africa Gold super lightweight champion after stopping Charles Chalala from Morogoro, Tanzania via technical knockout in the fourth round of their main-card title fight at The Edge Convention Centre, Nairobi.

Juma, 30, stretched his unbeaten run to 12 wins, putting on a dominant display against Chalala in front of a vocal home crowd who packed the venue for the event promoted by Ultra Fight Series (UFS) BXNG, in partnership with SportPesa and the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC).

“I feel happy winning this title in Kenya. I know it’s very hard for people to get one of these, so I feel blessed,” Juma said after the bout.

Speaking at the end of this first quarter edition of the 2026 SportPesa Boxing Night, UFS BXNG Promoter Maurice Odera said: “This has been one of the best nights in Kenya’s boxing history and we thank everyone who made it possible, notably our sponsors SportPesa, the boxers who trained hard and the fans who have supported us throughout.”

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri said: “What we saw tonight is proof that Kenyan boxing has the talent, the passion, and the audience to stand proudly on the continental and global stage.

We are proud to support platforms like this that give our fighters the opportunity to compete for titles, grow their careers, and inspire the next generation.”
