Kiambu Town MP Hon. Machua Waithaka Pays Emotional Tribute to Long-Time Friend and Ally, Former Makongeni Ward KANU Chairman Samuel Nundu
NAIROBI – Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Hon. Machua Waithaka on Wednesady joined family, friends, political leaders, and mourners in paying tribute to the late Samuel Nundu, a respected former KANU Chairman for Makongeni Ward in the then larger Makadara Constituency.
Samuel Nundu sadly passed away on June 7, 2026, in Nairobi. Family members, friends, and political associates gathered at Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home ahead of his burial at Wamai Village on Mfangano Island in Homa Bay County.
The emotional send-off service, held in Nairobi ahead of Nundu's burial on Friday, brought together family and friends who remembered a man whose life was defined by loyalty, friendship, and grassroots political mobilization.
Among those who paid glowing tribute to the late Nundu was Hon. Machua Waithaka, who shared touching memories of a friendship that stretched back decades to their early days in KANU politics.
Recalling his formative years in Nairobi politics, Hon. Machua narrated how both men rose through the ranks of grassroots leadership in Makadara Constituency. At the time, Machua served as the KANU Chairman for Harambee Ward, while Samuel Nundu chaired neighboring Makongeni Ward. It was during this period that the current Kiambu Town MP honed his political skills that would later propel him into national leadership, first through his political activities in Makadara before eventually shifting his base to Kiambu.
"Samuel Nundu was more than a political colleague; he was a true friend and brother. We walked this political journey together from the grassroots in Makadara, and our friendship remained strong despite the years and distance," Hon. Machua told mourners.
The legislator used the occasion to emphasize the importance of national unity and friendships that transcend tribal, regional, and political boundaries. He noted that his bond with Nundu remained unshaken even after relocating his political activities from Nairobi to Kiambu, describing their relationship as a powerful example of mutual respect and enduring friendship.
The funeral preparations have also reunited key figures who shared a rich political history with the late Nundu during the KANU era. Among those who have stood firmly with the family is Makadara Member of Parliament Hon. George Aladwa, a long-time friend of both Hon. Machua Waithaka and the late Samuel Nundu.
Hon. Aladwa and Hon. Machua were close allies during their years in KANU politics in Makadara, where they worked alongside Nundu in grassroots mobilization and community leadership. Despite the passage of time and changing political landscapes, the friendship among the three leaders remained strong, with each maintaining close ties long after their active days in Makadara politics. Their support for the bereaved family has highlighted the enduring bonds forged during their years of service in Makadara.
In a show of solidarity with the family, Hon. Machua Waithaka donated KSh100,000 and offered additional support towards the funeral arrangements, joining other friends and leaders who have stepped forward to help offset funeral expenses.
Friends described Samuel Nundu as a dedicated grassroots mobilizer, respected community leader, and a man who remained passionate about public service long after his active days in politics.
As mourners prepare for the final journey to Homa Bay County, many reflected on the powerful message emerging from the service—that true friendship transcends politics, geography, and ethnicity.
For Hon. Machua Waithaka, the loss of Samuel Nundu is not merely the passing of a former political ally, but the departure of a trusted friend whose loyalty, humility, and companionship stood the test of time.
The late Samuel Nundu will be laid to rest at Wamai Village, Mfangano Island, in Homa Bay County on Friday.
