In a feat that has captured the imagination of netizens, cyclist Jack Siro undertook an extraordinary 310 km journey, cycling from Nairobi to Kisii in a single day in time for Christmas celebrations.
His dedication and endurance have sparked admiration across social media, highlighting the lengths some will go to be home for the festive season.
In his full journey documentary on X on Friday, December 26, 2025, he shared updates, photos, and reflections from the long ride.
Followers were able to track his progress virtually, cheering him on as he navigated the challenging route and extreme conditions.
While Jack pedalled tirelessly, many Kenyans were facing the frustrations of heavy traffic on major highways as they travelled upcountry for the holidays.
Cars were often stuck for hours, with some people spending entire days just trying to reach their destinations.
Siro’s journey, by contrast, showcased an alternative way to navigate the festive rush, albeit a much more physically demanding one.
Early start
The journey began on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, when Siro sent his luggage ahead, arranging to receive it the following day.
He left his Nairobi home at around 4 a.m., navigating through the notorious Escarpment Road toward Maai Mahiu.
“People were in a traffic jam here for over five kilometres. Some vehicles were switched off, and in certain areas, traffic wasn’t moving at all. I just had to keep going,” He explained.
Despite traffic jams stretching over five kilometres, with vehicles at a standstill in some areas, Siro pressed on with unwavering focus.
Challenging terrain
Siro faced rolling hills, steep climbs, and treacherous descents along the Maai Mahiu-Narok route.
He made short stops for breakfast in Suswa and for refreshments along Dukamoja, Lele, Nabok, Narok, Bomet, and Sotik.
Along the way, he encountered abandoned and even stolen vehicles, yet continued undeterred, demonstrating remarkable physical and mental resilience.
On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, after roughly 17 hours on the saddle, Siro reached Kisii town. He paused to take photos outside the governor’s office and meet friends before completing his journey at home around 9 p.m.
Reflecting on the experience, he told followers, “This ride tested every part of me physically and mentally. But seeing my progress and knowing I’d make it home for Christmas made every kilometre worth it.”
