Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro Earns Second Masters Degree at Kenyatta University

Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro rated as among the best performing Members of Parliament in Kenya has added another academic milestone to his résumé after graduating with a second master’s degree from Kenyatta University, barely weeks after completing a similar postgraduate programme at the University of Nairobi. On Friday, December 19th, 2025,Nyoro a former Chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly was among four graduands conferred with a Master’s degree in Economics (Policy and Management) during Kenyatta University’s graduation ceremony. The award came less than three months after he graduated with a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi on September 19, underscoring an unusually intensive period of postgraduate study pursued almost concurrently at two institutions. Reflecting on the achievement, Nyoro described the experience as demanding but enriching. “It has been an intense period pursuing two Master's Degrees almost concurrently and in different institutions. The decision was motivated by the need to refine decision-making, especially on matters that affect the economy,” he said. He added that the experience extended beyond academic instruction, noting that interactions with classmates, lecturers, supervisors, and other stakeholders were integral to the learning process. He congratulated fellow graduands from Kenyatta University and other institutions that held ceremonies during the same period. The Master of Arts in Economics programme typically involves advanced training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and economic modelling, equipping graduates with analytical and statistical skills applicable in policy analysis, research and strategic decision-making. By contrast, the Economics (Policy and Management) track places a stronger emphasis on the practical application of economic theory to real-world challenges, particularly in public finance, development policy, trade and institutional management. Graduates are trained to use data to develop evidence-based recommendations for governments, non-governmental organisations and private sector institutions. Nyoro’s academic focus mirrors his public policy interests. As the immediate former chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, he has been a prominent voice on fiscal discipline and public debt. He has repeatedly raised concerns about Kenya’s national debt, which stands at Sh12 trillion, arguing that it has reached levels he considers unmanageable and risky for the economy. His educational journey began at Gathukiini Primary School, where he studied between 1991 and 1999, before proceeding to Kiambugi Secondary School from 2000 to 2003. Nyoro later joined Kenyatta University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2009. During his undergraduate years, he was actively involved in student leadership, an experience that helped shape his later entry into national politics. Over the years, Nyoro has consistently been rated among the best-performing Members of Parliament, with supporters often citing his grasp of economic issues and constituency development record. News of his latest academic achievement sparked widespread reaction on social media, where many users praised his commitment to education and public service. “And you keep asking how he makes Kiharu work,” one commenter wrote.
