Military Dressed Kalonzo Musyoka Storms Opoda Farm in Style to Mourn Raila

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) party leader Kalonzo Mustyoka entered Opoda Farm and Kango Ka Jaramogi in Bondo in style to mourn the man he twice ran as his presidential running mate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Kalonzo’s entry was unmatched, with no leader before him having arrived in such a manner, donned in military fatigue similar to what he and Raila once wore during their protest days, complete with a military cap. In a deeply symbolic traditional gesture by delivering dozens of cattle to his Opoda Farm home.Reports indicated that Kalonzo brought with him about 100 cattle, a grand show of respect that underscored the depth of his admiration for the former Prime Minister. Their arrival marked what has become one of the most striking tributes to Raila, whose death on October 15 triggered an outpouring of grief and honour across the country and beyond. Kalonzo, who was accompanied by a host of religious and political leaders defended the move, saying he had come to mourn “the father of protests”, with whom he had been in the trenches fighting for good governance struggles that almost cost their lives on several occasions. The crowd was uncontrollable as it stormed Opoda Farm, causing a moment of confusion as organisers struggled to contain the rowdy group that had accompanied Kalonzo. Raila’s family, led by Raila Odinga Junior and his wife Ida Odinga, welcomed Kalonzo and his delegation, as they lauded the long-term friendship between him and the late Odinga. Ida Odinga, the widow of the late former Prime Minister, acknowledged the long-standing friendship between the two allies Raila and Kalonzo. Mama Ida added, “Kalonzo has been a friend of Baba for many, many years. When we see him come here, he is grieving because he has come to mourn his friend.” While speaking at Kango Ka Jaramogi during Kalonzo’s visit to pay tribute to his late political friend, stated that the friendship Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had with Raila Odinga can never be wiped out. “From what I know, Kalonzo was a friend of Baba for many years, and their friendship can never be erased,” Ida stated.
