MOMBASA, Kenya, December 10, 2025 — LG Electronics, together with its main Kenyan distribution partner Opalnet Ltd, have announced the opening of a new Brandshop in Mombasa, affirming the company’s confidence in Kenya’s coastal retail market.
Mombasa County is one of Kenya’s most densely populated and dynamic urban areas. The 2019 national census recorded a total population of approximately 1.21 million for Mombasa County. Projections suggest continued growth with estimates placing the population around 1.37 million by the end of 2025, a 13% increase. This steady increase reflects Mombasa’s status as a major port, business centre, and coastal urban hub, drawing people for employment, trade, services and lifestyle.
For LG and Opalnet, who already operate seven brandshops in Nairobi, Mombasa presents a strategic expansion opportunity for its brick-and-mortar business. Despite the growth of online retail nationwide, many consumers in Kenya, especially for electronics and home appliances, continue to value physical stores. These allow customers to see, touch, test and receive immediate after-sales support and service, factors that remain especially important in high-value purchases. For LG, a brand that holds a leading share of Kenya’s home electronics market physical outlets are a vital component of its sales strategy, with nearly 75% of its product sales happening in-store. The company expects to open 10 new brandshops across the country over the next 5 years.
The new Mombasa Brandshop will showcase LG’s full suite of premium products under one roof, including televisions, audio systems, portable speakers, refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, built-in appliances and air-conditioning solutions. The store is designed to offer a modern, immersive shopping experience, with professionally trained staff ready to provide guidance tailored to coastal lifestyles and needs.
“Opening our Mombasa Brandshop brings LG’s energy-efficient and innovative products closer to households along the coast. We will also be running Christmas discounts of up to 50% on all purchases and invite you to take advantage of this festive season,” said LG’s East Africa President, Donghun Lee.
These sentiments were shared with Opalnet’s Managing Director, Rakesh Singh, who added, “Mombasa is an ideal location for bringing premium electronics and services closer to our customers.”
The launch of this store comes as LG continues to see sustained growth in different parts of the country, following increased demand for reliable appliances and quality retail services. Kenya’s household appliance sector is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 5.84% between 2025 and 2030, while television sales are expected to reach nearly 980,000 units by 2029.
