The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Mozzartbet Cup champions Nairobi United Football Club has condemned the acts of hooliganism witnessed at Dandora stadium during their premier league match against Gor Mahia FC.
In a statement, the club said football is meant to unite communities, inspire passion, and provide a safe environment for players, fans, and all stakeholders.
Nairobi United said hooliganism has no place in football, and the scenes witnessed today go against the values we stand for as a club and as a sporting community.
“We are deeply concerned by reports of fans who were injured during the incident, as well as those whose properties were damaged. Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone affected. The safety and well-being of players, football fans, and all other football stakeholders—must always come first,” said Nairobi United.
The club said Nairobi United remains committed to promoting fair play, respect, and peaceful coexistence within and beyond the football pitch.
“We call upon all fans to support the game responsibly and to respect match outcomes, officials, opponents, and fellow supporters.
We will continue to work closely with relevant authorities and football stakeholders to ensure that such incidents are prevented and that our stadiums remain safe spaces for all,” said the FKF Cup champions.
Chaos marred the FKF Kenyan Premier League on Sunday after the highly anticipated clash between Gor Mahia and Nairobi United was abandoned midway through the second half at Dandora Stadium, forcing league officials to intervene.
The match was called off in the 58th minute with the score tied at 1-1 after crowd unrest erupted in the stands. According to match officials, objects were thrown onto the pitch, creating an unsafe environment for players and match officials.
Despite efforts by security personnel to restore order, the center referee made the decision to abandon the fixture in consultation with security officers.
The incident is expected to be reviewed by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, which will determine the fate of the match and possible sanctions. The abandonment overshadowed what had been an evenly contested encounter.
