The new Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, David Kipsang Keter, has been sworn in. The swearing-in formed one of the first items of business as the National Assembly resumed sittings after a short recess.

During the sitting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the MP-elect was introduced to the House and invited to take the oath of office.

Keter then stood before the House and took the oath, committing himself to serve the people of Kenya and uphold the Constitution.

“I, David Kipsang Keter, having been elected a Member of the National Assembly, do swear in the name of the Almighty God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya, that I will obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya, and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament, so help me God,” he said.

After he completed the oath, Speaker Wetang’ula congratulated him and directed him to sign the oath documents.

“Congratulations, you may proceed and sign to the oath,” he said. Keter then signed the documents and took his seat in the House.

It was directed that Keter and other new members who had not yet been assigned committees should be placed in committees without delay. He said the assignments should be completed “in the shortest time possible” so that they could begin work.

Keter replaces the late Johanna Ngeno, who died in a plane crash in February 2026. He won the Emurua Dikirr seat in the 14 May by-election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, securing 18,266 votes according to results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

His closest challenger, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), received 10,760 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Gideon Koech of NVPK, who got 190 votes, Desma Cherono of PNU with 80 votes, and Kiprono Rotich of RLP with 62 votes. A total of 29,358 valid votes were cast in the election.

Keter’s entry restores full representation for Emurua Dikirr at a time when Parliament is handling key legislative business, including the Finance Bill 2026.
