University stakeholders across the country have been urged to strengthen practical training for media and film students in order to enhance their field exposure and industry readiness.

Speaking during an interview, Miss Faith Mukundi, Managing Director of Newsline Media and Training Agency, said the initiative is aimed at inspiring the next generation of professionals through hands-on experience.

She emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping students with technical and practical skills that align with current job market demands, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.

“It is necessary that whatever is learnt in theory needs to be practical,” she said.

Mukundi noted that the organization’s mission is to empower young professionals through hands-on training, mentorship, and industry attachment programmes that connect academic theory with real-world media innovation.

She further observed that the rise of digital media has improved access to information, with citizen journalism playing a key role in how content is created and shared.

However, she pointed out that inadequate practical resources in universities and colleges remain a major challenge, limiting student exposure to real production environments.

“This limits the number of students that can be enrolled for a single programme at our centre, forcing us to further postpone our subsequent intake,” she said.

Mukundi also acknowledged that one of the initial challenges during the establishment of the attachment centre was uncertainty around public acceptance. Despite this, she noted that the centre has since impacted more than 200 professionals across diverse fields.
