Ngunjiri Wambugu Demands Clarity From Jubilee on Disciplinary Threats
Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has challenged the Jubilee Party to come clean on its threat of disciplinary action against members participating in aspirants’ forums, demanding specificity and fairness in any intended process.
In a press statement dated March 28, Wambugu questioned the legal and constitutional basis of the party’s warning, insisting that no member should be subjected to vague or blanket accusations.
“If there is indeed an allegation that I or any other member has violated the Party Constitution, then the Party should be clear and specific,” he said, calling for details on the exact conduct in question, the provisions allegedly breached, and how ordinary political engagement is being interpreted as misconduct.
His remarks come in response to Jubilee’s caution against forums held outside official party structures, which the party claims undermine its internal systems. But Wambugu argues that such a position risks overreach and could be used to suppress legitimate participation.
He maintained that he is ready to face any lawful and properly constituted disciplinary process, but warned that such mechanisms must be anchored in clarity, fairness, and due process.
“Political engagement should not be criminalized simply because it is inconvenient,” he added, signaling resistance to what he perceives as attempts to control grassroots mobilization.
The former legislator further argued that the issue goes beyond procedure, touching on the broader question of internal democracy within Jubilee. He warned that failure to handle the matter transparently could erode trust among members and aspirants preparing for the 2027 elections.
Even as tensions simmer, Wambugu reaffirmed his loyalty to Jubilee, framing his demands as part of a push to strengthen—not weaken—the party’s democratic foundations.
The standoff now shifts focus to the Jubilee leadership, which will be under pressure to either clarify its position or risk deepening perceptions of internal friction within its ranks.
