Veteran Kenyan broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka has sent a fresh message to Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide, days after their interaction at the Machoka at 50 concert attracted attention following a dramatic moment on stage.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Machoka thanked the celebrated musician, his partner Cindy Le Coeur and the Quartier Latin International Band for their contribution to the concert, which marked his 50 years in the media industry.

The broadcaster began his message by reflecting on the significance of bringing celebrated musicians together for the occasion, expressing gratitude to the Congolese entertainers for being part of his milestone celebration.

“When legends gather, history is made!” Machoka wrote.

He went on to thank Olomide, Le Coeur and the band for their performance, acknowledging their role in making the event memorable for the rhumba fans who turned up at the venue.

“A massive thank you to Koffi Olomide, the incredible Cindy Le Coeur, and the powerhouse Quartier Latin International Band for an unforgettable performance at #MachokaAt50,” he added.

Machoka also praised the musicians for the quality of their performance, highlighting the musical prowess and energy they brought to the celebration.

“Pure class, legendary rhythm, and electrifying energy!” he wrote.

What happened at the Machoka at 50 concert?

The Machoka at 50 concert took place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. The event brought together rhumba fans and prominent guests to celebrate Machoka’s five decades in broadcasting and his longstanding promotion of the genre.

Olomide headlined the show, performing alongside Cindy Le Coeur and members of Quartier Latin International Band. However, the celebrations were overshadowed by a disagreement over a cake-cutting ceremony that was meant to form part of the occasion.

After completing an extended performance, Olomide and his entourage appeared ready to leave the stage. Machoka then asked the Congolese star to remain for the cake-cutting ceremony, but Olomide did not participate and instead walked off the stage.

Footage of the incident showed Olomide raising his hands before leaving, while Machoka followed him in an apparent attempt to calm the situation and persuade him to return. The singer did not come back to take part in the ceremony.

The cake-cutting had reportedly been delayed earlier in the evening because Olomide had not arrived when the initial ceremony took place. The cake was kept for a later moment involving the star, but the request came after his performance, when he and his team appeared exhausted.
