Record-breaking Turnout at Ruiru Sports Club for the Ndung’u Mwaura Memorial Golf Tournament

RUIRU, KENYA, 6th February 2026 –In a powerful display of community spirit and sporting excellence, the Ruiru Sports Club hosted a historic edition of the Ndung’u Mwaura Memorial Golf Tournament. The event drew a massive field of 251 golfers to the fairways, supported by an unprecedented 26 sponsors, alongside the steadfast backing of the late Ndung’u Mwaura’s family, friends, and club members. The day belonged to Sabina Wacuka, playing off handicap 11, who carded a remarkable 67 Nett to claim the title of Overall Winner. Her clinical performance set the pace for a day defined by high-calibre play and tight margins. The competition was fierce across all categories, with several players delivering standout cards: Men’s Category: Githinji Muchiri, handicap five, claimed the top spot with a solid 68 Nett, narrowly edging out S.K. Nyingi, playing off handicap 25, who finished as Runner-Up with 69 Nett. Ladies’ Category: Karen Wanjiru, playing off handicap 25, secured the winner's trophy with 69 Nett, followed closely by Caroline Njeru handicap 16, who came in second. Frank Munyuah playing off handicap four, displayed exceptional precision to take the Gross Winner title with a score of 76 Gross, while Albert Macharia led the guests with a stunning 64 Nett. Beyond the scorecards, the tournament served as a vibrant tribute to the late Ndung’u Mwaura. The record-breaking sponsorship and the massive turnout of over 250 players underscored the deep impact he left on the Ruiru Sports Club community. Special recognition was given to the on-course specialists: Rafael Leming'ani, who swept both the Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive for the men, and Alice Mwangi and Grace Macharia, who claimed the respective honours for the ladies.
