Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), via its youth platform Safaricom Hook, in collaboration with Sprite, yesterday hosted the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series at the University of Eldoret, engaging over 300 students and youth from the university and nearby communities. The program trained participants in content creation, monetization, and digital skills, providing the tools needed to succeed in Kenya’s growing digital economy. The session featured industry mentors, including musician Collo Blue and dance creator Tileh Pacbro, who shared hands-on insights, practical tips, and strategies to help young creators excel. “I’m delighted that Safaricom and Sprite have brought this masterclass to our university. I’ve learned that platforms like Safaricom Hook are useful not only for entertainment but also for studies and research, thanks to the affordable internet bundles,” said Norman Kipkurgat, a second-year student. This Eldoret visit follows last week’s first Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass at JKUAT, marking the start of a nationwide effort to equip Kenyan youth with digital skills, creativity, and financial knowledge. “The Hook’d on Fresh campaign is designed to equip creators with the skills, tools, and inspiration they need to thrive in the digital content economy. We also encouraged youth to adopt a saving culture early and explore opportunities in tech and digital platforms,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom. The series will continue touring universities across the country, providing students with digital skills and products such as Ziidi Invest and Save, designed to support their daily hustle. Additionally, Safaricom and Sprite launched the Hook’d on Fresh User Generated Content (UGC) Challenge, inviting young people nationwide to showcase creativity through short-form videos. Participants can share their “fresh” take on music, sports, fashion, and comedy on TikTok and Instagram using hashtags #HookdonFresh and #SafaricomHook, tagging Sprite Kenya and Safaricom Hook for a chance to win prizes. The challenge features 403 winners across nine tiers, with cash prizes ranging from KES 3,000 to KES 20,000, as well as smartphones and data bundles. Winners are selected monthly. By combining mentorship, creative skill-building, and financial literacy, the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series empowers young Kenyans to innovate, earn, and succeed in the digital economy.
