Sifuna Launches The Equitable Party, Gears for 2027 Presidential Polls
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled his political party, The Equitable Party (TEP), as he eyes the presidency in the 2027 election.
Sifuna was unveiled as the party leader and presidential flagbearer during a ceremony in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, 2026, attended by supporters and political allies.
Linda Mwananchi Movement spokesman Caroli Omondi announced the formation during a ceremony in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, 2026, where he declared Sifuna as its presidential candidate.
“In this journey to deliver this change, we are going to be led by one, and I now want to declare here that this formation will be led by one presidential candidate, Edwin Watenya Sifuna; we shall be united in this course,” Omondi said.
During the launch on Sunday in Nairobi, Sifuna was declared TEP party leader and the presidential candidate.
The party's logo bears green and yellow colours with the symbolic scales of justice, the party assumes the slogan Tusawazishe.
Kenyans willing to join the party can dial *509# and the party code is 100.
Present during the unveiling were several leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement, among them Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and his Kisii counterpart Richard Onyonka.
Siaya Senator James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godffrey Osotsi were also present alongside a host of other leaders.
Speakers at the event endorsed Sifuna as the right candidate to take on President William Ruto in the coming election.
Speaking at the launch of the party on Sunday, Sifuna vowed that he will steer the party with integrity and political decorum.
"I want to assure you that I will not let you down," he said.
The presidential hopeful said that the party will prioritize change and people-centered leadership, a policy he believes will be the antidote to Kenya's political ills.
"We believe in equal opportunities for everyone in this nation. We will listen before we speak, consult before we decide and explain policies and account all our actions," Sifuna stated.
"I have no capacity on my own to create a movement, it belongs to all of you who have chosen the path of change."
Sifuna joins a list of other leaders who have formed political parties ahead of 2027. Days ago, his Linda Mwananchi Movement finally got the rights to reserve the name, having faced difficulties in doing so.
The Political Disputes Tribunal ruled that LMM has the right to reserve the name, overturning the decision by the registrar of political parties to deny the team the chance to reserve the name.
It's believed that TEP will be part of the many parties that will form the LMM coalition to try and wrestle the presidency from Ruto.
