Student Pilot and Instructor killed after Aircraft Crashes in Narok

Two people have died after a light aircraft operated by the Kenya School of Flying crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado West Constituency.

The aircraft went down near the Kipeto Wind Power Project while on a routine training flight, killing the two people on board, a student pilot and a flight instructor.

Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maurine Jepkemboi confirmed the incident, saying preliminary reports indicate the aircraft crashed in the hilly area of Kipeto.Emergency response teams and local residents rushed to the scene following the crash.

Kuto said the student died at the scene, while the teacher died from injuries while being rushed to Kajiado Referral Hospital for treatment.

“The first victim succumbed at the scene while the second succumbed while being rushed to hospital,” she said.

Officials said preliminary reports indicated that poor visibility caused by heavy morning mist may have contributed to the crash.

“The preliminary cause of the aircraft accident is poor visibility that was occasioned by poor visibility in the morning as a result of the mist,” Kuto added.

She said the pilot had attempted to make a crash landing after encountering poor visibility, but the aircraft went down.

Several people, including emergency responders, gathered around the extensively damaged aircraft as they examined the wreckage.

Pieces of the aircraft's metal casing, luggage believed to have belonged to the occupants and other items were scattered across the crash site.

Police said experts had been called to the scene to establish more details about the incident.

Aviation safety authorities have been notified and are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and establish its cause.
