The Presiden William Ruto led ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) won all the four seats in a by-election marked by low voter turnout. The president’s outfit has won all four seats, which include one parliamentary seat and three Members of County Assembly seats. Taking it to their social media platform on Friday, February 27, 2026, the IEBC said that the elections were concluded and announced by the respective returning officers in the various areas and posted on the commission’s website. IEBC announced the UDA Party candidates as the winners in the elections, expressing its sincere appreciation to Kenyans in the four by-election areas who turned out to vote. Isiolo South constituency candidate Mohammed Tubi won the seat with 7,352 votes, trouncing his closest rival and sister, Bina Tubi of the Jubilee party, who garnered 634 votes. Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko allied National Empowerment and Development Party (NEDP) candidate Isaac Abduba trailed with 44 votes. The results, announced after tallying ballots from all 60 polling stations, handed UDA a resounding victory and reaffirmed the party’s dominance in the region. Isiolo South constituency has a total of 22,181 registered voters, and the outcome of the mini-poll is keenly being watched both locally and nationally due to the unique political dynamics surrounding the race. Duncan Muratia won the Evurore seat in Embu county with 7,853 votes, Peterson Njeru won the Muminji ward seat with 3,207 votes and Elphas Shalakha won the West Kabras seat in Kakamega county with 3,317 votes. The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mohamed Tubi Bidu. The IEBC formally declared the seat vacant after he died while receiving medical treatment in Nairobi on November 12 last year. Bidu, who had been elected in the August 2022 General Election on a Jubilee Party ticket, was widely regarded as a prominent local leader and influential figure in Isiolo South politics. In a rare case of sibling rivalry playing out in the political arena, the by-election saw a brother and sister square off for the same seat. Tubi Mohammed and Bina Mohammed, both children of the late former MP Mohamed Tubi, went head-to-head in a high-stakes contest that captivated residents of the constituency. Despite sharing the same political lineage and family background, neither candidate was willing to step aside, setting the stage for an intense battle that dominated local political discourse in the weeks leading up to the vote. Two by-elections for the member of the county assembly were held in the Mbeere North constituency in Evurore and Muminji wards. In Evurore Ward, Duncan Muratia was declared the winner after garnering 7,853 votes, whereas Albert Muchira of Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party emerged second with 1,940 votes. The independent candidate Johnson Mukuru Mate came third with 1,753 votes. Elsewhere in Muminji Ward, Peterson Njeru of UDA sailed home with 3,207 votes. Boniface Kariuki, who was flying the flag for the Development Empowerment Party (DEP), came second in place with 2,232 votes. In Kakamega Ward, a mini-poll for a member of the county assembly was also held in West Kabras Ward, in which UDA’s candidate Elphas Shalakha emerged the victor after receiving 3,317 votes. Bramwel Wasike Khaemba, who vied on a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), came in second with 2,640 votes in the hotly contested challenge, while Shivoko Masini came in third with 79 votes. Nivah Musa Khisa of Wamalwa’s DAP-K received 65 votes, and ODM’s Edward Inzofu Indimuli got 30 votes.
