Nairobi Single Mothers lobby has exposed corruption allegations against the county’s former Education minister Janet Muthoni Ouko.
“We as the Nairobi Single Mothers Lobby Group, a dedicated advocate for the rights and welfare of single mothers and their children in Nairobi County, is shedding light on serious allegations of corruption and misconduct involving Muthoni Ouko, a former Nairobi County Minister of Education,” they said in a statement.
Addressing a press conference at Chester House, on Monday, February 26th, 2024, the mothers said that they have uncovered disturbing allegations of embezzlement of bursary funds by Ouko, amounting to millions of shillings.
“This misuse of public funds has deprived countless children of the educational support they desperately need,” they protested.
They said that their investigations have revealed irregularities surrounding her re-appointment as Minister for Education and her subsequent earning irregularities.
The mothers alleged Ouko’s involvement in running a private shadowy school feeding enterprise and at the same time was fighting Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s school feeding programme.
“Additionally, it has come to our attention that Muthoni Ouko also runs the Tunza Mtoto an education empowernment lobby group, advocating for children’s rights. However, her actions in fighting against programs like Dishi Na County directly contradict the interests of the very children she claims to support,” they said.
The Nairobi Single Mothers Lobby Group called for thorough investigation into these allegations and urged the relevant authorities to take action.
