All eyes are currently on the Ruiru Sports Club (RSC) where the 2024 Captain’s Prize golf tournament is taking place this week, coming just after the club celebrated its 100th year.
Set to celebrate the outgoing RSC captain, Jessy Ndegwa, the tournament will serve as the climax of his illustrious tenure as the curtains close on his second term in office.
Ndegwa, formerly the club’s vice captain for two years, has led with notable accomplishments, including course enhancements, boosting sponsorship, and fostering junior golf development.
With a host of sponsors, including Family Bank, Kenya Pipeline Company, CIC Insurance, Madison Insurance, and AM Communications Ltd among others, the competition in this year’s edition is billed to be mouthwatering with over 700 golfers drawn from across the country expected to participate.
During the weeklong extravaganza, organizers have made a field of both amateurs and professional golfers to sweat it out on the greens for the ultimate prize and bragging rights.
“I welcome every one of you to this year’s edition. It is an exciting time that we are having this tournament, and it is my hope and belief that it will prove the while. It is not just a tournament but an extraordinary golfing experience. Come, golf, and build new connections,” said Captain Ndegwa
Kicking off the tourney on Sunday March 3, was the juniors’ event, followed by the caddies’ event yesterday, which brought to the greens an astounding 40 and 100 participants, respectively.
The 18-hole course will see action pick up during exclusive Curtain Raiser events on Tuesday (March 5) and Thursday (March 7), as several golfers tee off with a special nearest to pin competition.
The main event, on Saturday, will see golfers tee off at 6.20am drawing national attention to the legendary golf club, where participants and fans will be entertained across the day by some of Kenya’s leading musicians.
