In 2016, when Nick Mwendwa’s administration took the helm of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Jackline Juma was nearing the end of her illustrious playing career with the Harambee Starlets. Not long after, she decided to hang up her boots and embark on a new journey in football coaching, a path made accessible and encouraged by FKF’s introduction of coaching courses specifically designed to include former players.
Jackline’s commitment to advancing her coaching career saw her successfully complete a series of FKF and CAF coaching courses, including CAF D, CAF C, CAF B and the recently accomplished CAF A. Over eight transformative years, she has transitioned from a celebrated national team player to a beacon of coaching excellence.
Today, Jackline stands as the head coach of Gor mahia Queens, after significant stints with several local women clubs including Acacoro, Gaspo and also contributed to the women’s national team both as an assistant and head coach for junior national teams. Currently, she is leading the Talanta Hela U19 women’s team in Spain, showcasing her ability to nurture and develop young talent on an international stage.
Jackline Juma’s journey is a testament to the impact of FKF’s coaching courses, demonstrating how they empower former players to blend their on-field experience with newfound coaching knowledge. This initiative is not just creating jobs; it’s shaping the future of Kenyan football by ensuring the next generation benefits from the wisdom of those who have truly lived the game.
