Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has protested reports in the media that he has acquired a new political party.
In a statement on Wednesday, Gachagua said that the report is false and full of malice.
“This one-sided false story is laced with innuendos and malice,” the DP said.
Gachagua’s reaction comes after a local daily reported that he has acquired a new party.
He said the publication in the Nation Media Group (NMG) online platform acted in bad faith and intended to attack the integrity of the DP.
“To associate His Excellency the Deputy President with another political party can only have been done in bad faith, with the sole intention of undermining His Excellency’s role as the Deputy Party leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party,” Head DPCS, Njeri Rugene said in a statement.
He insisted that the article violates tenets of good journalism, that demand objectivity, balance and fairness.
He also demanded an apology from the daily.
“In this regard, we demand a retraction of this fabricated article and an apology with the same prominence,” the statement said.
