In a heartening display of unity and support, AFC Leopards fans are celebrating the backing of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for their beloved club. The Chairman of Chairmen (CoC), Franklyne ‘Kuka’ Imbenzi, has been at the forefront, expressing the collective joy of thousands of fans upon learning that DP Gachagua is among the millions of loyal Ingwe supporters.
Imbenzi, who also serves as the Secretary General of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission, emphasized the significance of Gachagua’s support for AFC Leopards, a club boasting the largest membership in Kenya with an estimated 6 million members. He believes that this endorsement provides a unique opportunity for fans to unite, not only in their support for the club but also to establish a robust support system that will benefit both the club and its extensive fan base.
“We are very happy that the Deputy President is a supporter of our club. We want to assure DP Gachagua that he is supporting the best team and the success he is hungering for in terms of silverware is coming very soon,” Imbenzi stated enthusiastically.
Highlighting the club’s extensive reach, Imbenzi noted, “AFC Leopards has the largest membership in the Kenyan Premier League, pegged at over 6 million members, and more than 10 million fans in Kenya and globally. With these numbers, we want to encourage Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he is in the right bandwagon.”
Looking ahead, Imbenzi disclosed plans for AFC Leopards fans to form a welfare society aimed at providing tangible benefits to its members, thereby creating a proud and supportive network. “We stand at 6 million members, making AFC Leopards the team with the biggest membership in the Kenyan Premier League. We want to use those numbers to create something that fans can take pride in and also benefit from. It is a network that we shall be creating, and with DP Gachagua as one of us, we are optimistic that we will go far,” Imbenzi added.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Bungoma, shared his longstanding admiration for AFC Leopards. He revealed that his support for Ingwe has spanned nearly four decades, a passion that has remained steadfast.
Reflecting on the past, Gachagua reminisced about the golden era of Kenyan football, “Leopards and Gor Mahia provided Kenyans with great entertainment and contests in the 1980s before English football took over at the turn of the millennium.”
The endorsement of DP Gachagua has undoubtedly invigorated the AFC Leopards community, promising a brighter future for the club and its ardent supporters.
