US President Joe Biden has announced his exit from his re-election campaign.
The announcement by the oldest sitting president in United States history came amid mounting pressure from his fellow Democrats, with more than 30 Congress members publicly pushing for his exit.
President Biden announced he is dropping out of the presidential race after mounting calls from Democrats.
Biden has failed to convince members of his own party that he can defeat former President Donald Trump in November after his poor performance at the CNN presidential debate in June.
In a statement on his official X handle, President Biden said that though he intended to seek re-election, it is in the best interests of his party and the country to step out of the race and concentrate on solely fulfilling his duties as president for the remainder of the term.
Biden said that he would be addressing the country later in the week to divulge more details about his decision.
Biden will be supporting his Vice President Kamala Harris to fly the Democrat flag against Republican’s Ex-President Donald Trump in the elections.
