Azimio la Umoja coalition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa have called on the Gen Zs to keep up the fight against the reconstituted broad-based government of President William Ruto, saying they are the substantive opposition leaders in the country.
Without a strong opposition, there will be a dictatorship; We will not join the Ruto government and we will remain loyal to the people,” Kalonzo assured.
In a press conference in Embu town on Sunday, August 18, 2024, Kalonzo said that the new administration was planning to reintroduce defeated bills in Parliament and bulldoze them with the newfound majority.
“We want to encourage the Gen Zs to have a new approach; that we have a Gen Zote approach which will include everyone,” Wamalwa added.
The Wiper Party leader also warned that the government was planning to introduce additional taxes back through parliament, increased electricity costs and road tolls.
He chided the ODM party, saying that they were riding on the deaths of the Kenyan youth who sacrificed their lives for a better country by accepting to join the government.
He urged the Judiciary to stand firm against state machinations, saying it was the last line of defence for the Kenyan people.
On his part, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa stated that the newly reconstituted government could be worse than the previous administration after a section of opposition leaders were co-opted into it.
“With the numbers that have been garnered now by the broad-based nusu-mkate government, these taxes will go through parliament,” Wamalwa warned.
He noted that President William Ruto was hell-bent on weakening the opposition by raiding Azimio coalition and picking some of their members to cabinet positions.
