The ruling Kenya Kwanza government has been accused being behind the failure of re-constituting the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance co-principal Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka said Kenya Kwanza cronies have filed a case in court which has stalled the process of recruiting new IEBC commissioners.
Musyoka asked President Ruto to call on his cronies to withdraw the case and pave way for the process of constituting the electoral body.
Dr Musyoka said that the Azimio coalition had adhered to the strict timelines of the Court and presented the name of Koki Muli for the IEBC Selection Panel.
“The State itself has filed an appeal with the Kiambu High Court against our decision. They want candidates who are easy to influence and manipulate. It is a President William Ruto strategy to ensure there is no IEBC,” said Dr Musyoka who joined congregants at the PCEA Nguthuru Parish – ELIM Church in Kenol, Murang’a County on Sunday, December 8th, 2024.
Musyoka said the National Liberal Party which is led by Agustus Kyalo Muli disputing Koki’s appointment in the Selection Panel was not a parliamentary party and cannot seat on the panel.
“Koki Muli is from the Wiper Party which is a parliamentary party as it has MPs elected on its ticket sitting in the August House. The matter was resolved in Court but government operatives pushed Augustus Muli to file an appeal which has led to the delay of the IEBC selection process,” said Kalonzo.
Dr Musyoka was accompanied by former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Jubilee Party SG Jeremiah Kioni, former MPs for Limuru and Kiambu Peter Mwathi and Jude Jomo respectively.
Dr Musyoka chastised the State and in particular President William Ruto for creating the constitutional crisis by failing to reconstitute the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“Speaker Wetangula is also part of the conspiracy against Kenyans. If they had been committed to marshall Parliament in a record short period, as they did with the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua aka Riggy G as the Deputy President, the country would not be in a constitutional crisis,” said Kalonzo.
