Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah was arrested for taking part in street demonstrations protesting the abduction of youths by president William Ruto’s government.
Omtatah is among a group of protesters who were picked by police officers from Nairobi Central Business District and taken to Central Police Station for processing.
The group had staged a protest on Monday, December 30th, 2024 to voice their reservation about rising cases of abductions.
Omtatah was picked up by police after minutes of a standoff involving police officers in Nairobi CBD.
This is after he and other protesters clung to a heavy-duty metal chain in a bid to block police from arresting them.
Anti-abduction protests in Nairobi on Monday turned dramatic after Busia senator Okiya Omtatah and a group of protesters used a heavy-duty metal chain link to block an arrest by police officers deployed to control the crowd.
The senator had joined tens of Kenyans who took to the streets of Nairobi’s central business district to demand the release of abducted Kenyan youths.
While chanting anti-abduction slogans, the group called for the unconditional release of the abducted youth.
Omtatah was seen carrying the Constitution of Kenya booklet which he displayed as he chanted alongside other protesters.
