Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa is seeking Ksh. 50 million from former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, his deputy Charles Ngome and a county official for defaming him.
In the case filed by Barasa, the three are accused of making murder and mismanagement of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) allegations against the legislator.
Through his Lawyer Danstan Omari, Barasa argues that the trio was hell-bent on tarnishing his name for political gain.
“Our client (Barasa) believes you are angered and against our client’s future political and development plans for people of Bungoma County. To our client, you appear to be hellbent on edging him out of future political races in Bungoma county,” read the lawsuit in part.
Wangamati was quoted in the lawsuit accusing Barasa of mishandling county funds and terming him a liar.
“Of all the 290 constituencies, the only constituency that is controlled from Nairobi is Kimilili. If today you cannot manage Kimilili CDF which is managed from Nairobi, if you cannot manage a constituency, can you manage a county?” he posed.
Ngome was also quoted saying that Barasa is not fit to hold a gubernatorial position if he has failed to manage Kimilili constituency, acusing him of being a murderer.
“You cannot be unable to manage a constituency [and] then claim you want to be a governor. You will not manage. That is a lie…in Bungoma, we do not want a person who kills people…he killed a person and he has a case. Are or are you not aware?” Ngome said.
