Former Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) president Hillary Alila has taken over as  Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) party leader.
Alila who has been serving as the party’s chairman has been promoted to take over from Green Congress of Kenya founder and former Rangwe Member of Parliament (MP) Martin Ogindo as the party leader.
The changes within its top ranks in the party were made by the Green Congress of Kenya National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Nairobi on Friday, October 27th, 2023, after Ogindo stepped down as the party leader to join President Dr William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Other officials in the party confirmed by the NEC include Deputy Party Leader Vincent Willis Omuono and Thomas Mariwa who was Alila’s deputy to become the National Chairperson Thomas Mariwa, among others.
Ogindo who previously served as Chairman of the Budget Committee, and a member, of the Departmental Committee on Lands & Natural Resources in Parliament during his tenure as a lawmaker praised the new leadership of the party saying he had left Green Congress of Kenya in safe hands with competent and trustworthy crop leaders at the helm under Alila’s stewardship.
Ogindo who was appointed by President Ruto to serve as the Chairperson of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA) explained that he left the party after Ruto’s request to have him join his UDA party.
President Ruto appointed Ogindo for the position of Chairperson of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA).

Alila while addressing the press said that the GCK party is not confined by rigid ideologies or partisan boundaries, instead, he added that the party is defined by the determination of the members to put the interests of the citizens first.

“Our goal, which is clear, is to strengthen our party and lay the groundwork for a coalition that will propel us into government,” Alila said.

He explained that the next generation of voters is diverse, forward-thinking and hungry for change. The party now seeks a government that is nimble, dynamic, and in tune with the challenges that require innovative solutions.

“We welcome fresh ideas from all walks of life because this is the power of unity that can help us overcome the divisive politics of the past and focus on the common good,” Alila said while reiterating that the party stands for good governance, economic prosperity, social justice, and a sustainable future,” he added.

Ogindo who previously served as Chairman of the Budget Committee, and a member, of the Departmental Committee on Lands & Natural Resources in Parliament during his tenure as a lawmaker praised the new leadership
He explained that he left the party after Ruto’s request to have him join his UDA party.

“GCK is a party of vision and action. The main reason why I joined UDA is to help President Ruto achieve his dream of transforming this country,” Ogindo said an avid environmental conservation enthusiast.

He explained that GCK also shares President Ruto’s aspirations of conserving the environment and there is no big departure from his action to join the president’s party because GCK’s vision of greening the country will still be achieved.

“UDA manifesto has a good plan for the environment and that is what President Ruto is promoting. Most of the aspirations of GCK are contained in Ruto’s plan for the country,” Ogindo added.
