Jentrix Shikangwa was the heroine as she scored a brace in the final of the Caf Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers as Vihiga Queens beat Commercial Bank of Ethiopia(CBE) 2-1 in an encounter played at Kasarani Stadium on September 9, 2021.
The win means that the home girls will take part in the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League Continental show-piece set for later this year in Egypt.
Shikangwa opened the scores in the 28th minute of the match to give her side a slim -0 at the breather. Matters were level as the match resumed the second stanza with Vivian Makokha’s scoring an own goal in the 53rd minute.
The 20-year old Shikangwa scored a penalty in stoppage time when Violet Wanyonyi was brought down in the goal area. The youngster has been revelation for Vihiga after scoring the winner in their semi-final match against Simba Queens of Tanzania.
Her sold performance earned her the Most Valuable Player of the tournament with CBE’s captain Loza Abera walking home with the top scorer’s award with a record 13 goals. Uganda’s Lady Doves’ shot stopper Daisy Nakaziro took home the golden glove after conceding only two goals in the tournament.
Lady Doves finished third in the tournament following their 2-1 win over Tanzania’s Simba Queens.
The winner took home USD 30,000 with the 1st runners up pocketing USD 20,000. The 2nd runners up went home with USD 10,000 richer.
