Former Churchill Show comedian Eric Omondi has received a one-month prison sentence from a Nairobi court. Omondi and his associates were found guilty of violating laws governing public assembly, leading to this sentencing.
During the hearing, Magistrate Lukas Onyina determined that Omondi did not have permission for their gathering at the parliament buildings. Consequently, he handed down a one-month prison term or a fine of Kshs. 10,000.
In his defense, Omondi explained that he and his friends had assembled at the parliament buildings to seek an audience with the speaker to address critical national issues. They expressed concerns about the continuously rising cost of living, which was becoming unbearable for citizens.
Omondi took to social media to share the news with his fans and the Kenyan public. He wrote on his Instagram handle, “So today the courts have sentenced me and these young guys to one month in prison. We have been sentenced for fighting the high cost of living. It is also strange that the government increased fuel prices yesterday, which oddly coincided with our court date, related to the same cause we’ve been sentenced for. I am prepared to serve that one month… I believe that tomorrow we will emerge victorious.”
