Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki officially inaugurated the newly established Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Isiolo County on Friday, where he issued strict directives to address armed criminals who have been causing distress to citizens in the region.
“Security officers are instructed to use their firearms to lawfully protect citizens and their property. Armed criminals challenging security agencies will face severe consequences,” he emphasized.
CS Kindiki also pledged that the government would put an end to banditry and livestock theft in 2023 by equipping security officers with modern technology to effectively combat criminal groups.
“2023 is the year in which we will eradicate livestock theft and banditry in North Rift Valley Counties, Upper Eastern, and Coastal regions,” Kindiki declared.
He further stated, “The government will establish additional security camps, deploy specialized security personnel, and establish administrative units to bring essential services closer to the people.”
The residents in the region are hopeful that these measures will finally put an end to the longstanding menace of banditry that has plagued the area for decades.
