The 2019 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup semi finalists Mombasa based SS Assad edged out Luanda Villa 2-1 in a National Super League Division One playoff match at Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Sunday 17, October 2021.
With the win, the Coastal side earned a promotion to the Betika National Super League (BSL) 2012/22 season.
As it was expected, the match was a tricky one for the sides because they we seeking a promotion slot.
The sides started the match on high in the first 20 minutes of the match but it was the away team that had great chances.
Assad’s efforts bore fruits in the 26th minute thanks to Abadalla Hamadi’s goal to earn his side advantage before the breather.
On resumption, the home side knocked looking for an equalizer and they were rewarded as they forced Juma Mwanjao to put the ball into his own net in the 60th minute.
Six minutes later, Mwanjao redeemed himself as he scored a second of the day for his side to make sure they earn the precious slot to the NSL.
SS Assad finished second in pool A, Luanda Villa also finished second in pool B
The Betika National Super league is scheduled to kick off on 6th November.
The Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) football team Talanta FC secured a place in the FKF Kenya Premier League after emerging sat the top of the second tier league.
