Kenya junior team on Wednesday qualified for the Cecafa Under 23 semi-finals after edging out South Sudan 2-0 at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Northern Ethiopia.
KCB midfielder Reagan Otieno and second-half substitute Benson Omala picked from where they left in Kenya’s opening match against Ethiopia, by netting the two goals.
The duo was on the score sheet when Kenya beat minnows Djibouti 3-0 in the opening match of the regional tourney.
The emerging stars will look to carry the momentum from their two consecutive wins when they face the winner of Group B in the semi-final round. Kenya leads Group ‘C’ with a maximum of six points from two matches while South Sudan and Djibouti are yet to earn any point after defeats to Emerging Stars.
Another match staged at the same venue which left the race for the semi-final slot wide open, saw guest team DR Congo suffer their first defeat in Group ‘A’ as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Tanzania who top Group A on 3 points. Uganda and DR Congo are on one point each.
The tournament enters its final round as host Ethiopia will clash with Burundi with both teams aiming for maximum points. Minnow Djibouti and Uganda will play South Sudan and Tanzania respectively on Friday.
