A Kenyan female athlete has been found murdered by an Ethiopian runner in a house in Iten town, Elgeyo-Marakwet county.
The upcoming athlete identified as 24-year-old Damaris Muthee Mutua was allegedly murdered by an Ethiopian athlete identified as Koki Fai who reportedly fled from the country after the incident.
The athlete, held Bahrainian citizenship after switching her allegiance from Kenya. She ran for Kenya in 2015.
Her body was found in the man’s house at Lillys Estate on the outskirts of the town.
Fellow athletes alerted the police after the alleged killer called from outside the country saying he had committed the murder.
Keiyo North police boss Tom Makori is leading a team of officers who are at the scene.
Police have sealed off the scene and are currently investigating the circumstances around the killing.
This comes a few months after athlete Agnes Tirop was killed in the same town last October.
Tirop was on October 13 found dead in her house in Iten where she lived with Rotich as her boyfriend.
A postmortem on the body revealed that she died after being stabbed in the neck and being hit by a blunt object in the head.
Ibrahim Kipkemboi Rotich, the ex-boyfriend to Agnes Tirop has denied murdering the athlete.
Rotich on November 16th, 2021, appeared before Justice Reuben Nyakundi and denied killing Tirop on October 12 at Rural Estate in Iten town.
“It’s not true your honour,” said Rotich when the charge was read out to him.
