Former Sports Minister Maina Kamanda Eyes Nairobi Senatorial Seat

Former Sports Minister and nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Maina Kamanda has announced that he is joining the race for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the August general election.

The former Sports minister revealed that his decision to run for the Senate position was informed by the demand of the people of Nairobi.

“I have been listening to the people of Nairobi. You cannot say I’m old to lead the people of Nairobi yet they are telling me to lead them in the Senate,” he said.

Speaking at an interview with Kameme TV, Kamanda a former Starehe constituency Member of Paqrliament (MP) said he is not planning to retire from active politics and he is ready to serve the people of Nairobi at a more advanced level as their Senator.

Following his entry to the contest, Kamanda will now compete against the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and the 2017 Jubilee Party Women representative nominations aspirant Karen Nyamu of Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) among other aspirants.

Kamand also asked the Deputy President William Ruto-led UDA party to get ready for defeat in Nairobi noting that all political seats in the county will be taken by the Azimio la Umoja team.

“Nobody is thinking about Ruto in Nairobi. UDA will not get any political seat in all the 17 constituencies within Nairobi. This is because we have made a plan on how we will win the seats,” he said.
